In the happy zone

You know when life is just going right? It very rarely happens that all aspects of your life are in harmony. But for me it’s happening today. Well really all this weekend was brilliant.

My sisters and I celebrated Mothers Day by taking Mum out to Little and Friday for lunch. Mum’s a keen fan on anything rustic and country-kitchen so she absolutely loved it. We drank coffee, ate brioche and cream filled donuts, and laughed at all that’s happening in each others’ lives. Then we squeezed in a spot of shopping, where we bullied my youngest sister into writing her number on a receipt for a flirty salesman.

Other than a lovely day with my Mum and sisters, I spent the weekend dining with friends, drinking with friends, shopping, getting my hair done (no more greys!!!!) and getting my nails polished. All around bliss.

I was also quite surprised, as even though I gorged myself on the above pictured donut (drool worthy!!) I managed to get my ass into a pair of skinny  jeans that I bought at Easter! This morning I weighed myself, as I do every Monday morning, and I’m the lightest I’ve been in as long as I can remember. You know when you’re on that weight loss high and all you want to do is keep eating healthy and exercise? I’m there.

I’m halfway through Six Weeks to OMG, and while people have criticized it I can see how parts of it work and make sense. I’ve started the skipping breakfast plan. I know, I know, people are going to tell me it’s bad, don’t do it. But I am. It’s working. Instead of feeding my body, it is forced to dive into it’s already pre-stocked refrigerator – my ass. Then at lunch it’s back to normal and I munch down on a tuna/chicken salad and fruit. Of course, I don’t want anyone to take from my blog that I’m telling you skipping breakfast will make you lose weight. No. I suggest you read the book if you want to know more.

My tummy is starting to grumble now, time for a long, black coffee. It’s also kind of achy. Too much planking during ad breaks last night.

Blend it, baby!

This week every morning I’ve been drinking an adapted version of this recipe, which I found on Suzi’s blog for an amazingly good smoothie.

I altered the recipe a tad lot by leaving out the peanut butter, adding a small handful of blueberries, and just using unsweetened Greek yoghurt. I’ll also throw a kiwifruit in some days, when I’m feeling rebellious. Of course I don’t measure out all the ingredients; who has time for that? It’s not a cake! Just throw it all in the blender.

I have to say that I’m loving it! It’s so easy to prepare and I find myself enjoying it every morning and feeling full until lunch. When you’re on the weight loss train it can be difficult to keep things interesting and simple. Having to prepare and cook numerous different items can make those of us who are lazy give up too quickly. So I’m always happy to report when something is super simple and delicious and ultimately very healthy for you.

For those big chickens out there – you can’t even taste the baby spinach.

P.s. I’m on the hunt for an awesome smoothie takeaway cup, so if you know of one, please let me know!

In the zone

I don’t know what it is about winter, but it always seems to be the time of year that I lose weight. Maybe it’s because I know I have four or five months to get into shape before bikini season comes around again? Maybe this time it’s because there’s a potential man on the scene? Who knows… whatever the reason, I hope my subconscious has it chained to a post so my weight loss zone may continue!

On Thursday last week I went for my first run since the half marathon. Yes, since October last year! I have been playing tennis, touch and walking in between – but never heading out for a run around the block. I’ll admit though, I thoroughly enjoyed it and having now just mapped it, I am super proud of myself! 5kms! Admittedly I do have the odd walking spot (read: HUGE HILLS), but 80% is running/jogging.

I did the run again yesterday afternoon, Sunday (in the rain), and I’m going to do it again tonight. My goal is to complete this run four times a week. Until I can run the full 5kms, at that point I will change up the run and lengthen it.

Watch this space. I am determined to wear that bikini.

So I only gained 1.8kgs during birthday week…

Not the 2.3kgs I originally thought…

So with the wrap up of fun from birthday week – my best friend and I have birthdays a day apart and thought it would be a fun idea to have an event every day for a week – it was awesome, but also exhausting and obviously quite detrimental to the body.

This means I am now on extreme health food (read: tuna salad and soup) and exercise until I shed 10kgs. Of course there will be occasional days/weekends off – like the weekend we have planned at the snow next month – but I will not go overboard.

This photo is my inspiration:

While I’m not expecting to get that awesome body any time soon, I want that bikini!!!! 22 weeks until summer!!!

Shedding the extra chins

You know when you see those godawful pictures of yourself splashed all over Facebook and you finally realise how much of that pasta and cheese you had been eating actually has stuck to you, and not shed off like you were telling yourself? This happened to me yesterday. It was a rude awakening when I saw my six chins hauntingly-grinning back at me as I smiled in a photo.

BRONWEN! Yes, I was mad at myself. The chub has gradually crawled back and clung on for dear life.

So today marks the day. My exercise and diet plans have been given a large boot up the arse. It’s on.
