Friendship dramas

Sometimes things get blown way out of the water.

Before Christmas a mixed group of my friends went out for some drinks, dancing and fun in town. After we’d all downed a few alcoholic beverages we were walking to the next bar when one of my female friends spotted my crush at the time and asked me; “hey Bron, isn’t that *marine man*?” and I responded with; “oh shite, it is!“.

Then one of my male friends, who I was standing next to, started yelling out “hey *marine man*!!!“. Totally embarrassing me. I turned to him and said “wtf? shut up!” and then proceeded to whack him. Yes I did.

This is the issue.

I apologised the next day for whacking him (which btw was not a hard whack). But it turns out, now two months later, he is still holding a grudge over it and doesn’t even want to socialise with me. I have noticed the cold shoulder from him and did think it could be related. But then thought to myself… nah surely not! The female friend that told me about it doesn’t understand why he’s still holding the grudge either.

What do I do? I’ve never been in this situation before. I hate having issues within groups of friends. I never meant to upset him like this. It was just my instant reaction to the embarrassment of the moment. I don’t even know what to say to him.

The sad bit is that we used to be quite close, talking all the time on MSN until the wee hours of the morning, keeping each other company while finishing off those last minute university assignments.

  1. I’m sorry…I hope you two fix it. Have you called and talked to him. But if you already apologized then something other than the whack is bothering him maybe?

  2. Are you sure HE doesn’t like you? I can’t see why somebody would react that way, I do the same thing to my friends all the time. Maybe there was some underlying issue and this was just the reason he used to lash out?

Either way, I’d just sit down and talk to him about it. Give him the chance to explain things to you. If he doesn’t take the chance then at least you can walk away knowing that you did what you could to solve the problem.

  3. What a drama queen. Pffft. If he can’t get over it, move on.

  4. Funnily enough… you’re not the first to suggest he likes me.
He’s got no chance now if that’s the case, he’s acted like a complete idiot!
