An epic weekend. I loved my first snowboarding experience! I didn’t get too injured – a few people tried to slam into me, idiots! Just got aching-leg syndrome. But nothing I can’t cope with! The atmosphere down there in Ohakune is just amazing. So nice to get out of the big city of Auckland!

We headed up the mountain on Saturday after arriving in Ohakune the night before at 9pm. A very long drive from Auckland (5 hours) but a lot of fun! I had my first go on a snowboard… my god, a lot harder than it looks. The bod, especially the legs were aching afterwards!

Toni and I did some nice perving on the boarding boys as we sipped coffees midway because it was bloody freezing! Although the boarding certainly made you heat up!
It was my first snow experience since the age of 12, and I absolutely loved it! I’m going to have to work on my snowboarding skillz (totally lacking) before the next trip! Ohakune is seriously cute and chilled, an awesome spot to visit for the weekend. Would have been nice if we could have stayed a few more day, but unfortunately work calls!

The Mardi Gras party itself was awesome!! We all got mighty sloshed at the Inn we were staying in. It was great – everyone came out of their rooms and partied in the main areas. After several drinks and a few incidents that resulted in us all (everyone in the Inn) missing out on getting our bonds back – oops!! – we headed to the actual party in the street.

To start with it was freezing. But once squished in with all the bodies and boogying away, you warmed up instantly! Midnight Youth were amazing! And all night the music kept rocking and everyone kept grooving. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the actual party, as we decided against taking a camera, just for ease. More pics from the trip here.
We headed home at 1pm yesterday. God the drive home was exhausting – and I wasn’t even driving!! Still feeling tired today. I think a couple of early nights are on the cards! Good times were had though, can’t wait to head back!!

Looks like you all had a ball =D Certainly looks like a beautiful part of NZ, will have to make my way down some time =)
This post is actually getting me excited to move back home to the bay area. My friends love snowboarding and they go to Tahoe pretty often in the winter time.
The snow looks amazing. Glad to know you had a great weekend!
Nice!
