come on Auckland. let's get chilled like 'kune!

An epic weekend. I loved my first snowboarding experience! I didn’t get too injured – a few people tried to slam into me, idiots! Just got aching-leg syndrome. But nothing I can’t cope with! The atmosphere down there in Ohakune is just amazing. So nice to get out of the big city of Auckland!

We headed up the mountain on Saturday after arriving in Ohakune the night before at 9pm. A very long drive from Auckland (5 hours) but a lot of fun! I had my first go on a snowboard… my god, a lot harder than it looks. The bod, especially the legs were aching afterwards!

Toni and I did some nice perving on the boarding boys as we sipped coffees midway because it was bloody freezing! Although the boarding certainly made you heat up!

It was my first snow experience since the age of 12, and I absolutely loved it! I’m going to have to work on my snowboarding skillz (totally lacking) before the next trip! Ohakune is seriously cute and chilled, an awesome spot to visit for the weekend. Would have been nice if we could have stayed a few more day, but unfortunately work calls!

The Mardi Gras party itself was awesome!! We all got mighty sloshed at the Inn we were staying in. It was great – everyone came out of their rooms and partied in the main areas. After several drinks and a few incidents that resulted in us all (everyone in the Inn) missing out on getting our bonds back – oops!! – we headed to the actual party in the street.

To start with it was freezing. But once squished in with all the bodies and boogying away, you warmed up instantly! Midnight Youth were amazing! And all night the music kept rocking and everyone kept grooving. Unfortunately there are no pictures of the actual party, as we decided against taking a camera, just for ease. More pics from the trip here.

We headed home at 1pm yesterday. God the drive home was exhausting – and I wasn’t even driving!! Still feeling tired today. I think a couple of early nights are on the cards! Good times were had though, can’t wait to head back!!

the quintessential NZ winter party experience of the year

This afternoon we are off!! Serious excitement right now. Myself, my gorgeous girlfriends; Toni and Eileen, and a few boys (brothers and friends) are heading to Ohakune at 4pm this afternoon. It’s Mardi Gras time!

road trip

But alas, as I sit here the rain is pouring. Damn typical huh? I really hope the weather is nicer down south. When I return there will be photos of the chaos, snowboard injuries – as I attempt to cross #88 off my list, (weather permitting – damnit!) and road trip antics. Watch this spot.

twenty-five; it's not so bad if you say it quick like ripping off a band aid.

Twenty-five. Half-way to fifty. Quarter of a century. No matter how you say it, it sounds old. But I still got asked for ID three times this past week, so I’m stoked!

I remember when I was younger I used to think I’d be nearly getting married and settling down by the time I hit 25. But I was juvenile. Now that I’m a grown up at the ripe old age of 25 my senses have cleared up and I know I’m still, yes even at 25, way too young for all that shite!

It’s been a big year for me; newly single, new job, lost 24kgs and re-entered the dating scene (God! that’s been fantastic entertainment).

Last night a bunch of my nearest and dearest’s joined me in celebrating in what my “friend” labeled my OTH party. Over. The. Hill. He’s an asswipe (and only 23, damn youngins)! Because clearly an OTH party doesn’t happen until you hit 40, or for me it’ll be 50+. So we started off in the bar I had originally booked until through the grapevine we heard that the party in the bar next door with free food(!!), drinks(!!!!!), a live band(!!!!) and a flame thrower (I don’t actually remember seeing him?) was looking for extra party guests as their numbers were dwindling. So we jumped ship. The live band was fantastic and apparently my crowd managed to drink the bar out of champagne and punch. We’re classy, I know. My sister told me this morning that she had friends of mine coming up to her saying, “wow, Bronnie is amazing with this catering, free drinks and all the decorations!”. My sister just smiled and replied with “yeah, isn’t she awesome?!”. Ha! Love her. I will have to set the record straight at some stage… well if any of them ask me directly.

So here’s to year number 25, it’s been fantastic and I’m hoping like hell this year is going to be even more amazing and full of amsuing moments!
